Spike is Back! Pick up a Pen!

Comic legend Spike Milligan always broke conventions and made up his own rules, and he's doing it again. In a bold and unprecedented venture, the makers of a new documentary about Spike are taking their show on the road down the east coast of Australia in August and September. Led by a life-size doll of Spike, the tour includes radio broadcasts, a live show featuring Spike's eldest daughter Laura and musician Glenn Cardier who toured with Spike, and a new documentary film.

Rooty Hill RSL - Sunday 4 September

It was Father's Day in Australia and the Spike is Back! tour played at the Rooty Hill RSL.

On the same day there was a great article, featuring Spike's daughter Laura, in Sydney's Sunday Telegraph, in which journalist Sandra Lee wrote:

"Because it's Father's Day and because he is one of the great comic genuises of all time, I though you should know Laura Milligan will host a tribute to her late dad, Spike, and his paternal skills at Rooty Hill RSL tonight.

"The Goon Show legend was well known for his illness, but what is less known is how much he adored his children and the way he raised them for years as a single father, a parenting anomaly back in the 1960s and 70s.."

    Hi Cathy

Just wanted to let you know that a group of us trekked out to the Rooty Hill RSL last night to see the Pick up your Pen Tour and we all had a great night... I loved the guitarist (his songs and his anecdotes) and felt really privileged to be hearing personal stories about Spike from his own daughter. The doco was fantastic... sooo funny and yet moving and inspiring... it made me want to be a lot crazier!!!

Congratulations and good luck with the rest of the tour, you've got our votes for the IF awards!
    Cheers,
    Adriana x
