Spike attempted to kill Peter Sellers and he was admitted to St. Luke’s in Highgate. Sometimes he was pleased to see June and sometimes he wouldn’t let her near. Peter Sellers was quite unsympathetic of Spike’s condition. He said “Spike used to get suicidal because someone would shout at him”. About the stress Spike experienced in writing the Goon Show scripts: “I don’t know why he kept going with it for so long in that case”.
