Looking Back

1 April 1962 - 30 April 1962

Spike and Paddy get married. They left the children at Laura’s convent school and sailed for Australia for four months to do radio and television work for ABC – another series of The Idiot Weekly and The Spike Milligan Show. (This was when the British government refused to renew Spike’s passport saying he was no longer a British citizen.) In Australia he spent time at his parent’s house in Woy Woy and financed an extension to their house. This is the room where he wrote "Puckoon" and other books and where some of the interview with Desmond for I TOLD YOU I WAS ILL: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF SPIKE MILLIGAN was recorded.
