Spike is told that the BBC Home Service is very pleased with the show. This was one of the few positive periods in Spike’s relationship with the BBC. Much of the Goon Show audience was by now listening overseas: as many as 4.5 million people listened in Commonwealth countries and the USA. The BBC kept copies of the shows from the fifth series onwards.
