Roberta Watt died and Romany was brought up by her grandparents in Canada. According to Norma Farnes, they did a wonderful job: “ a few years before Spike died, she wrote to him saying she would like to meet him. She wanted nothing more from him. She stayed with him for two weeks and was delightful”. She adored Spike and got on well with his other children, unlike James who, according to Norma, was always after money from him and since his death has had no contact with the other children.
