Spike toured Australia with his one-man show and this time Norma Farnes went with him. Norma got to know Desmond and his wife Nadia and also Flo (she called her “grandma”). While they were in Australia, Spike learnt that another of his girlfriends, Margaret Maughan, was pregnant. She had a boy, James. Spike supported him financially but didn’t meet him until he was about 15. He didn’t want his children to know about him. But in 1992, Margaret sold her story to The Sunday People and the children all found out. They still feel very uncomfortable about this and the way Spike handled it.
