The explorer
Spike loved to explore, dig and forage for artifacts. He
particularly delighted in finding and collecting all sorts
of weird and wonderful things. In the film that accompanies
this web site, Spike's third wife Shelagh introduces us
to the Aboriginal circumcision knife he found, while daughter
Jane marvels at the old pots and other artifacts discovered
at her grandfather's house in Sligo, Ireland, remarking,
"Dad would have love this".
Spike's role in discovering and preserving a cave used
by Aboriginal people that was adorned with unique rock carvings
is possibly the best known example of his achievements as
an explorer.
