Spike never made it to Sligo, but Jane visits
Spike and his second wife, Paddy, visited Ireland in 1967,
after which he remarked "It was wonderful being in
my own country".
He would visit numerous other times over the next 30 years,
especially with his third wife Shelagh, who was also Irish,
but he never made it to Sligo...
Daughter Jane Milligan visited Sligo in October 2004 and
explored the house in which her great-grandfather had been
born in Holborn Street. She was welcomed by the Mayor of
Sligo, found a copy of her grandfather’s birth certificate
in the town’s cathedral and dug up ceramic pots from
a midden in the Holborn Street house's backyard.
